We are learning phonics every morning at 9am. Some children are completeing phases 3 with Mrs Foxall and Mrs Westwood and some children are working with Miss Murphy on phase 4. Some children may work in a smaller group with Mrs Clifton.
Reading - this will start after our reading workshop
Children have a specific reading day when they will read with a teacher or teaching assistant individually and change their book. Please try and read everyday with your child at home and write in their reading diary so we know how they are getting on. They will also choose a library book to share with you at home. Once weekly the children also participate in "Guided Reading" in a small group of 6 with the teacher. This is usually a "Bug Club" text which is then allocated to their account so you can read it at home online as a follow up. Sometimes we use other reading schemes which are not available on Bug Club, and the children will bring home a sheet linked to the text to share with you. Please make sure book bags are in school every day the children often have chance for additional reading sessions with students and volunteers. They also use their book bag for storage of things they have made during the day and their jumpers and cardigans! :)
Bug Club - your child will bring a letter home with their log in soon
Children are encouraged to use Bug Club on a weekly basis, this helps them to apply the phonics skills they have learnt, it also asks questions to ensure they have understood what they have read. If you are having trouble logging into Bug Club please let a member of staff know and we will help!
Inside Outside time
Each day the children have a session in the outdoor and indoor areas. They complete focus activities with the teachers and teaching assistants and choose activities independently for the rest of the session. The children need a warm, waterproof coat and as the weather gets colder hats and gloves. In warmer weather please apply high factor suncream to your child in the morning before school and send them in with a named sunhat. On very sunny days please send in named suncream for your child to reapply at lunchtime :) Please make sure that all their clothes are named.
Forest school takes place every Wednesday with our Forest School teacher Mr Rowland. We also have a whole class forest school activity every Friday - please make sure your child's wellingtons are kept in school.
