If anyone has any spare clothes to donate to our spare clothes box the Year 1 team would be very grateful.
During the summer term the children will be recapping on maths they have learnt throughout the year. We will be focusing on addition, subtraction, shape, multiplication, division, time and shape. Please look at the maths calculation policy to familiarise yourself with the strategies used.(All policies are available on this website).
Our theme for english this half term is...
The children will be reading a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction texts during this half term; they will be learning how to write their own pieces of non-fiction writing and will be learning how to re-tell and adapt their own stories. They will also be learning how to use adjectives, verbs and adverbs to add detail to their writing. We will also be putting a great focus on sentence structure and how to use a variety of punctuation.
This term our topic is:
The children will be learning about the seaside and everything it entails; this topic will result in the children creating their own seaside at Northfield Manor. Through this topic they will covering History, Geography, Art and Design. If you have any artefacts from when the children have been at the beach or any other objects relating to our topic, we would love to see them. Anything that is brought into school will be looked after and returned to you safely.
Our science topic this term is Plants and growth. The children will be learning about various types of plants; the will learn about their uses, how plants grow and how to look after the environment. Children will be growing their own plants.
Reading is a key skill for children to acquire. We believe that in order for children to progress in their reading they must enjoy it. Please send book bags in everyday.
Individual reading books are sent home with your children on a Thursday. They are changed weekly. Your child will also have a session of guided reading during the week. The reading diary's sent home are for you to comment in on how your child has read at home.
Your child's BugClub account will be updated regularly with new books to read at home. Children will also be given the chance to use BugClub in school once a week during Guided Reading sessions.
Homework will be sent home every Friday and is due in on the following Tuesday. We feel that this is a great opportunity for you to see the ability of your child and also develop their learning at home.
Frank have PE on Mondays and Tuesday.
Mandela have PE on Mondays and Fridays.
Our PE kit is red tshirt, black shorts and black pumps. It is important that all children have their PE kits in school.
This term the children will be working on a variety of team sports.
