We hope you all had a lovely Summer holiday. We would like to welcome you back to school for the new academic year! If you want to talk to us, we will be available after school. However, if you wish to have a longer, more private talk together we can make a more suitable time for you to see us.
The key stage 2 doors will open at 8:45am. All children should be in their classroom at 8:50am. The outside gates will be closed at 8:55am and the register taken - any children arriving after this time will need to come in via the main office and will be marked as late. School ends at 3:25pm.
This term our English stimulus will be “Narnia” by C.S Lewis. We will be creating our own winter themed stories to collect ideas for creating our Winter Wonderland Grotto.
This term in Maths we are working with three and four-digit numbers and
developing skills with ordering numbers and bridging tens. We will also be handling data and statistics and will continue to work on our mental strategies.
Our PE this term is Invasion games and Gymnastics. Please ensure that your child keeps their PE kit in school.

Music: Curie will be learning how to play the Clarinet and Da Vinci will be learning the flute.
We are sure that your child will have a happy and challenging time in Year 4 this term!
Please can you ensure that you listen to your child read on a daily basis and write a comment in their reading record books about how you feel their reading is progressing. Children will have the chance to read library books, Bug Club, Oxford Owl and Reading Room books in school and they are also encouraged to borrow books regularly from the classroom.
Children are expected to learn their spellings and have a weekly test on Fridays. We also set homework every Friday —please help your child to complete tasks in their homework book and return it to school by Wednesday of the following week.
Could you please ensure that all your child’s clothing is labelled clearly with their names, so any lost items can be returned. There is a lost property box located in the Key Stage 2 porch. Please ask at the office if you think you have anything in there.
This is a busy and exciting half-term for the children in year 4. Here are some dates for your diary!
Friday 8th September - Year 4 will be visiting the Lickey Hills to see what a forest is like.
Class Dojo - Children will be receiving new invitations please sign up and check for any updates from teachers.
Each term we will be covering a different Learning Challenge. Through these we will teach: History, Geography, Music, Art, and DT.
Our Learning Challenge for this term is “How can we bring Narnia to Northfield Manor so that we can create a magical Christmas fayre”.
Our Science topic this half term is “Things and their habitat, name that living thing”. We will be investigating the characteristics of living things, so that, we can teach year 2 what the seven characteristics are. We will become experts in sketching and observing the different features of insects.
In Autumn 2, our Science focus will be on “Living things, help our habitats”! We will be researching about different environmental issues and how this has an impact on our world.
