PE

Our PE this term is Hockey and Dance in
Autumn 1 and Badminton and Dance in
Autumn 2. Please ensure that your child brings in their PE kit every lesson. PE kit will be required on Thursdays and Fridays.

Children need to wear a red polo shirt, black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and black pumps (trainers for outside). All PE kit should be clearly labelled.

Reading

Children will have the chance to visit the library each week. They are also encouraged to borrow books regularly from the classroom. Please can you  ensure that you listen to your child read, write a comment and sign their reading diaries daily.

Pupils can also use their BUG CLUB account or Oxford Owl as a form of home reading. If your child has forgotten their reading diary, please just make a note of their reading on a dated piece of paper.

Homework

Children are expected to learn their weekly spellings. You have a booklet that covers the whole year. However, we also send the weekly spellings out on Friday for a test the following Thursday. Your child has a homework book, which contains a mixture of tasks to be completed and will be sent home on a Friday. In addition, they will be asked to complete a reading comprehension task on a fortnightly basis and a Maths task weekly. Therefore, they should be completing two pieces of homework per week. On the weeks in which reading comprehension is not sent home, they should complete a task from the grid. Please help them to complete tasks in this book and return to school by Wednesday of the following week.

English

Our theme this term is story writing relating to

Harry Potter. We are focussing particularly on the opening and build up of a narrative. We will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and all of our work will revolve around this text. After the half term, we will be exploring newspapers, instructions and explanation texts.

Each week, we will be teaching a separate

comprehension and SPAG lesson. Your child will be bringing home a new reading book weekly. Other class books and library books are also   available on a daily basis. We expect them to read with you daily at home.

Maths:

This term in maths we are consolidating the previous term's maths work by applying our knowledge. We are looking more at problem solving and word problems for all calculations, money, time, weight, capacity and length.

Learning Challenge—Harry Potter

How can we turn our school into Hogwarts so
that we can inspire our children to read more?

That is the big question that we will ask at the

beginning of our topic. To answer this question,  we will be exploring the magical land of Harry Potter including a visit to the Harry Potter studios. We will be creating a range of magical objects and props for our exciting Hogwarts Day.

Science—Earth and Space

We will be exploring the planets in our

Solar System and the effects that the Sun has on our life on Earth.
