Mornings

The key stage two doors will open at 8:45am. All children should be in their classroom at 8:50am. The   outside gates will be closed at 8:55am and the register taken - any children arriving after this time will need to come into school via the main office and will be marked as late. School ends at 3:25pm.

Library

Children will have the chance to visit the library each week. They are also encouraged to borrow books regularly from the classroom and reading room. Please can you  ensure that you listen to your child read, write a comment and sign their reading record books about how you feel their reading is progressing on a daily basis.

Homework

Children are expected to learn their spellings each week, these are very important. They will be given a booklet for each half term and tests will be on a Friday. Your child will also bring home their homework book - please help them complete tasks in this book and  return to school by Monday of the following week.

It is important that the children complete their homework on a weekly basis as it is an additional learning opportunity and will support the children in preparation for their SATs tests, as well as aid them in their learning challenges.

Please speak to an adult in year 6 if you are ever unsure on what you need to do. We are here to help! smiley

English

This term we will be focusing on World War II within our English sessions. We will be watching and reading extracts from ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ and ‘The Secret Garden’ to encourage the children to create their own engagin pieces of writing. As well as this, the children will be continuing to complete Comprehension and SPAG activities based around extracts from these two texts.

Maths

This term in Maths we will be concentrating on place value and a range of calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We are also focusing heavily on  problem solving and reasoning.

P.E

Our PE this half term is rugby and hockey. Please ensure that your child brings their PE kit every week. This is a red polo top and black shorts. They may wear trainers for this activity.

Our P.E days are on

Wednesdays for both classes.

Science

This term we will be studying Evolution and Inheritance. We will be looking at natural selection, fossils and Charles Darwin’s work on evolution.

Medication

Can we just remind parents that if your child has asthma and requires an inhaler in school, that it is sent in clearly labelled with your child’s name.

If your child wears glasses, please ensure that these are in school each day.

All medication should be reported to the office to ensure that the school are aware.
